a near 30 year feud in the last half of the 1800's between two mountain families. What

The Civil war started the feud when Devil Anse
Hatfield, who fought for the Union and lived near present day Matewan, West Virginia,
formed a band of guerrillas, crossed the Tug River and raided the lands of Randolph
"Ranel" McCoy, who fought for the Confederacy and lived in Kentucky. The feud
began in 1861 and lasted until 1891. |
