The quarter's stateside face depicts a view of Crater Lake from the south rim. The island in the center is known as Wizard Island. Trees shown are hemlock, fir, and pine conifers. Crater Lake is a 6 mile wide caldera formed by the eruption of Mount Mazama almost 7000 years ago. The lake and it's 180,000 surrounding acres were dedicated as a National Park in 1902. It is the deepest lake in the United States.
