| The quarter's stateside face depicts a view of Crater
Lake from the south rim. The island in the center is known as Wizard Island. Trees shown
are hemlock, fir, and pine conifers. Crater Lake is a 6 mile wide caldera formed by the
eruption of Mount Mazama almost 7000 years ago. The lake and it's 180,000 surrounding
acres were dedicated as a National Park in 1902. It is the deepest lake in the United
States. |

Origin is unkown: May have been named for the Columbia River, at one time was called the
"Ouragan," which is the French word for Hurricane.
