current sense of that word. Cattle grazed there as late as 1830. Elm Park in Worcester,
Massachusetts claims to be the oldest area set aside by a city or town specifically for
use as a public park. It was designed by Frederick Olmstead who was also the landscape
architect for Central Park in NYC.
