Point State Park: Pittsburghs vibrant
downtown area
got its name from a the triangle of land formed
by the convergence of three rivers: the Allegheny,
the Ohio, and the Monangahela. Technically, where
the Allegheny and Monangahela meet is
referred to as The Point.
Be sure to catch this great city of America. |
Bits of
History Update:
Many famous sports figure came from Pennsylvania. Can you name one from
golf and one from football? Both still alive. One coaches and the other talks about
driving his Dad's tractor. Piece of cake question.

Reenactment of the Washington crossing the Delaware at the
Washington Crossing Historical Park in Pennsylvania. Oddly this park which documents one
of the most significant battles of Our Revolutionary War is run by the Pennsylvania
Historical and Muesum Commission. |

Park Name Origin:
Named after the borough of Gettysburg and the civil war Battle of Gettysburg fought
there. Gettysburg
was founded by Samuel Gettys, a 1774 bussinessman and tavern owner at the east-west and
north-south
crossroads in southern Pennsyvania, where soldiers and traders came to rest often.
State and National Park Fun Facts:
Pennsylvania's North Country National Scenic Trail is part of an eventual seven state connected set of
hiking trails across the northern states of New York, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Michigan,
Wisconsin,
Minnesota and North Dakota. Check out the map on their web site. Could be a whole summer
adventure. Presque Isle State Park is a 3,200-acre sandy
peninsula that arches into Lake Erie. As
Pennsylvania's only "seashore," Presque Isle offers its visitors a
beautiful coastline and many
recreational activities, including swimming, boating, fishing, hiking, bicycling and
in-line skating. A
National Natural Landmark, Presque Isle is a favorite spot for migrating birds.
