Later, Dr. Thomas Young proposed the               current name when the state was formed in 1777.             North Carolina The quarter's stateside face depicts the historic first airplane flight by the Wright Brothers on December 17,  1903. Orville is flying and Wilbur observing. The flight was at Kitty Hawk, North Carolina.
