The quarter's stateside face depicts the New River Gorge Bridge as the sun rises over a nearby ridge. The bridge, located near Fayetteville, is the world's second longest steel arch bridge. More significant is the National Park in the area which extends from Hinton 53 miles upstream. Famous for whitewater rafting and gorgeous views it is an area not to be missed.

West Virginia has a population of 1, 826,700, 35th in the nation. Its land area is 24,807 square

miles, 41st in the nation. The highest point is Spruce Knob at 4,861 feet above sea level. Visit Cass
Scenic Railroad State Park and enjoy a bit of history of logging and steam locomotives. While
there take a trip to Green Bank and visit the National Radio Astronomy Observatory to learn
about radio waves and facinating discoveries in space. Famous people from West Virginia
include Sam Snead, golf professional at White Sulphur Springs famous Greenbrier Resort which
is a great place to visit and stay and once was a secure bunker for the United States Congress in
the event of war.
